News Successful training on solar thermal technologies and insulation

Since December 2018, a joint project of URBIS and our partner WECF is being funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU)). The aim of the project is to foster energy efficiency measures in Georgia, Moldova and Romania. The project’s kick-off event was held in March in Moldova – find out more about the meeting in this article.

From 23. to 27. september a national training was organised in Romania, focused on solar thermal technologies and building insulation. The training was organized by the German-Romanian Foundation for Education and Training in Timisoara. Carina from URBIS attended the workshop as well as solar thermal expert Lutz Unbekannt and many interested Romanian participants.

The training included a broad variety of theory and practice. During the first two days the participants learned a lot about the theoretical basics of solar thermal heating. During the subsequent excursion the participants visited already existing systems and were also able to get active themselves: under the supervision of Caritas employees Daniela and Tibia, they jointly built a solar thermal collector in the specially equipped workshop of Caritas Timisoara.  Everyone participated enthusiastically in this task and many showed great interest in the technology.

The last two days focused in particular on efficient building insulation. In lectures given by Lutz Unbekannt and local experts, the participants were able to broaden their knowledge on different insulating materials and how even small measures can have a great effect.

After the successful training, we at URBIS are looking forward to the next steps in the joint project!
