News Successful Completion of the SESEUS Project and Launch of the SUNrise Project in Uganda

The SESEUS Project (Strengthening Energy Systems for Enhanced Use of Solar in Uganda) addressed a critical issue in the region:
Many solar systems in the region malfunctioned, but there were few resources available to repair them. Supported by Engagement Global with funding from the BMZ and the URBIS Foundation, the project has been successfully implemented. In the Lango subregion, two vocational training centers have now included solar courses in their programs, training 40 young people in solar technology. These graduates are now working as Solar Extension Agents (SEAs), providing solar installations and maintenance services in their communities.
Additionally, 45 district staff members have been trained and are now capable of integrating solar energy into their development plans. In seven districts, renewable energy use has been officially added to the agenda, and public-private dialogues have promoted collaboration among various stakeholders.
Building on these successes, the SUNrise Project (Strengthening Uganda's Nonprofits with Solar Energy), funded by the URBIS Foundation, will provide two organizations—Deaf in Action and Seeds of Hope—with solar power systems. These systems will power sewing machines for training women and youth and an irrigation system for a women's coffee farming group. Solar Extension Agents will be further trained to handle the installation and maintenance of these systems, which will promote the long-term use of solar energy in rural communities. The official project start date was April 1, 2025.
