News Solar thermal training for tradespeople in Sokodé

Installation of the solar thermal system at a health station.

From 8 to 11 July 2025, the Urbis Foundation Togo organized a practical training course for 16 craftsmen (including 4 women) on solar thermal systems.

The aim was to train plumbers and electricians in the installation and maintenance of solar thermal systems - with the long-term goal of spreading this technology more widely in training centers and households.

Despite the high solar potential in West Africa, access to knowledge about renewable energies is still limited. The training at the Formathèque in Sokodé included both theoretical content (system types, components, safety precautions, fault diagnosis) and a practical installation of a 300 l system in the village of Kparatao.

The participants were highly motivated and expressed a desire for further training and a longer duration in order to consolidate what they had learned. The committed trainers and the practical implementation were particularly praised. The training ended with an evaluation and the ceremonial presentation of certificates of participation.

With this measure, Urbis Foundation Togo not only strengthens the technical know-how of local craftsmen, but also promotes long-term access to sustainable energy in rural regions.
