News Over 600 people educated about high blood pressure and diabetes in Togo
For the past four years, URBIS FOUNDATION TOGO has offered an annual diabetes and hypertension tour in Togo to raise awareness of these diseases. This year, the tour was extra special as it was the first time we were able to faciliate health centers with materials and medicine to provide long-term treatment and diagnosis on their own. This is more important than ever, as the numbers of unknowingly sick people were higher than ever. During the tour, a total of 636 people were tested for hypertension and diabetes, of which 396 had diabetes and 112 had hypertension. Thus, a full 80% of those tested had one of the diseases. These figures are alarming, as they surpass the already high figures of previous screenings (66% in 2022).
The four health stations visited each received a package with counselling material and products for the treatment of the above-mentioned diseases. This serves to not only ensure effective follow-up care for the sick, but also to be able to continue the free counselling of the population. In this way, we will continue to work together for improved health care in Togo.
