News A successful year for the solar sector in Togo

The Urbis Foundation has concluded a cooperation agreement with Windkraft Simonsfeld AG for a period of five years (2023-2027), with the participation of Initiative Eine Welt Braunau, with the aim of strengthening the photovoltaic sector in central Togo. Key milestones of the cooperation are the establishment of a solar training centre in Sokodé, Togo, with a PV demonstration system and support for electricians on their way to becoming self-employed solar installers.

A lot has already happened this year:

The reference library in Sokodé has been equipped with specialised literature on photovoltaic and solar thermal systems. In addition, high-quality photovoltaic measuring devices were purchased for the training centre. These are used for short-circuit measurement and string performance testing on existing solar systems.

The project also made it possible for 20 electricians and solar course participants to complete four-month internships at a solar company in Togo. Five different solar companies in Togo took on our best graduates. The internship allowance, transport costs and insurance for the interns were covered by project funds.

The internship was followed by a one-week intensive training programme on entrepreneurship and management, which is intended to support the graduates on their path to self-employment.

Thanks to the financial support of Windkraft Simonsfeld AG, the solar sector in Sokodé, Central Togo, has already been significantly expanded and improved in the first year of the project, as you can see. We are delighted with the successful cooperation and look forward to many more years together.
